1st Chapter [Voice/possible Action] Forward Dated to May 8

[It was raining, something that rarely happened in the arid region of the Far East on his homeworld. It was raining when he pulled himself up out of the mud three days earlier with a soreness in his shoulders and a baffling block of missing time that he could not explain. With his immortal body, sleep was optional and even unnecessary--the last time he slept was over seven years ago, just before the fall of the Spiral King and his army.

The black out bothered him more than the wings, but his inherent pride as a warrior and a beastman kept him from more than a cursory question here or there over the journals. Soaked to the bone and thoroughly irritable about the information he absorbed via the strange journal that arrived with him, Viral finally emerges from the silence he had built up around himself.

The video feed opens to the beastman sitting in relative comfort in a shabby fort he built for himself amongst the fallen branches from the winter. It was obvious that this wasn't the first time he had broken his needless exile, as the new feather pants had been traded out for his comfortable travelling gear, including a very ragged brown cloak and an equally worn red scarf. Though dry for the moment, his hair was still tangled and not fully cleared of the mud.

Clearly his isolation was more important than finding an apartment. Though, if pressed, he would explain his thoughts on that manner.]

Luceti. I am Viral. [Pronounced like the word 'virile.' There's a subtle pause, either from the inherent awkwardness of this or his noticing that the filter is terribly broken.] If any of you here have ever encountered someone by the name of Simon [pronounced 'see-mon.'], from a place called Jeeha Village, who also calls himself 'the digger' and is currently ranked at High Commander in our world, if you have met his brother Kamina or any of their friends in Team Gurren or Team Dai-Gurren, I will not ask you to disregard anything you may have heard about me. Whatever they said is likely true.

[From a certain perspective and point of view.] I only ask that you keep an open mind.

Also, is there someone on this network who can explain why the animals are talking? Does the rain normally last for this long? [Another beat.] I've been here for a few days now, so I understand enough, but this climate is unfamiliar.

[With that he ends the feed, not wanting to say much more. Though tempted to just shut the journal, his questions about the local fauna and climate are pressing enough to be a bother. He's there, in the woods toward the west. Feel free to find him.]

I know of the basics--the wings, the barrier...time. That's all I know for certain at this point.

What about the Shifts? And the Malnosso experiments?

I know enough to understand that they are unpleasant most of the time. Is there something else about them?

The experiments leave side effects on the resident for a time. The effect changes from experiment to experiment it seems but they are...as you've mentioned, unpleasant.

[Sabriel is suddenly glad that the conversation is happening over voice chat, she doesn't want to appear to a New Feather as someone so tiny.]

...I see. And these experiments are completely random?

Apparently so, and there's no way to avoid the droids that come to collect.

How does that work? Every opponent has a weakness.

[Even the Spiral King.]

They are simply overwhelming. Faster and more resilient than you can imagine. If you are prepared for the fight then it might be possible to take one or two down but they arrive in groups.

Resistance also gives them leave to be as hostile as necessary to facilitate capture.

[That sounded like the shreds of news that filtered from the streets and into the prison of his world, about a new kind of gunman that lacked a face and preferred tactics involving overwhelming force. It was sloppy, but effective enough to drive the population into hysterics and drive them to throw their High Commander into a cell.]

Their hostility wouldn't matter to me. [He's not as weak as he looks.]

[It's not a matter of being weak Viral. If that's all there was to it maybe some of the residents might have avoided capture.]

Then be prepared to make a mess if you put up a fight.

[She's seen enough capture videos through the journal to see how little the droids care for collateral damage.]

...that's usually what happens in a fight.

[Not just in terms of strength but determination.]

[Determination was a notorious tipping point. Battles that should have ended in victory for him had the opposite outcome when his opponents refused to accept defeat. Repeatedly.]

...What kinds of warriors are here anyway? Even with this barrier, there should still be some formidable fighters inside this dome.

There seems to be a great number of types that are surprisingly similar to each other considering the different worlds represented here but there are those who have mastery over weapons like guns or swords, others who control the elements and others still who wield magic.

[She doesn't much feel like going into her own powers of necromancy at the moment so she'll just keep that hushed up for the time being.

You are a fighter as well?

That's quite some diversity...[He wasn't going to plan anything yet--not until after he gained a comfortable footing within the social structure--but this did give him cause to do some research.]

I am. I'm just a wandering warrior, nothing special. [Except for his former rank, status as a pariah, and the fact that he cannot die.]

[Everyone is allowed their own secrets.]

In that case do you know about the Battledome yet?

...I don't. [He's only been around for three days, and was more concerned about gathering his effects and fashioning his fort.] What is it?

A place where fighters can go to train and spar; it's located southwest of the village but not too far. There are also simulations you can program into the system if you are wanting to recreate a specific type of environment or challenge.

[With time and patience, he could recreate his Enkidudu--no, even his Enki, but...]

Simulations can only go so far. [It would be like hunting down so many flying raccoons, pigmoles, and grapehippos.] But it is better than having nothing. You have my thanks...

[He trails, not knowing her name.]

Sabriel.

[She provides it for him, inwardly chiding herself for not introducing herself earlier.]

It's no trouble Mr. Viral.

...Don't say 'mister,' Sabriel.

[That just made this even more wierd.]

Just Viral then.

[She'd rather be polite during a first meeting than not.]

Do you have somewhere to stay yet?

[Human politeness baffled him as much as certain aspects of human wisdom.]

Thank you. I'm in the woods to the west of the village, but I have...shelter. If the weather remains this chaotic it might not be enough.

[Though the concept of having a 'residence' without a need to sleep, amidst the humans, made him less than comfortable.]

If you need a temporary place to stay you can head to the Welcome Center; they have rooms for any new residents who don't have a place yet. Failing that there are the Community Houses.

Although if the rain continues like this it might be better to weather it out in the Welcome Centre.

...I'll consider that. [It would be nice to dry off and properly bathe, even if his cloak was strangely not dusty.]

This place doesn't have a very large population, does it?
